John had spent many years in the well-known tribute band "Rumbleseat" playing keyboards where he found his future business partner, guitarist Brian Gagnon. Brian introduced John into the Toronto studio – Players Music where John wrote jingles, radio/tv spots and sound libraries. It was also where he began to learn the art of engineering.
When they formed Gagnon/Jamieson Productions, they moved to Markham and merged with P.A.M. (Paul Anand Media Duplication). It was here Shania (Ilene) Twain recorded her 11 demos that she took south to Nashville with her to explore her future. The Kings and 3MDM were also amongst their clients.
John opened his own studio, Soundhouse, in Markham where 3MDM came to record bringing their producer, John Punter, who had been an assistant engineer with Sir George Martin in England. (Working with clients such as: Bryan Ferry, Engelbert Humperdinck, the Hollies etc). John was taken under Mr.Punter's wing and taught the art of producing. At one point during the production, all of John's studio was re-located within Metal Works where John Punter and John Jamieson completed the project.
All of these experiences extended his knowledge and hands-on training in both producing and engineering far beyond the traditional classroom fundamentals. An opportunity John and all his clients are grateful he had.
